Lazy Day

29 September 2011 in Traveling

Today was just one those days where you have stuff to do, but can’t bring yourself to do any of it. Today I was supposed to go for two 3 mile runs, but instead I started out the day with the runs. I won’t go into details, but it certainly didn’t make me want to stray too far away from the restrooms. That sort of set the tone for the entire day. We were supposed to go visit our supervisor here and ask if we could stay an extra day or two and whether or not we would be able to arrange a ride to and from the South Rim before we departed. But that kind of fell by the wayside as well. So that left little to no hope of us creating the short movie we photographed stills for the other day.

What we did accomplish is watching Venture Brothers this morning while eating homemade biscuits and gravy. Then I did some reading while Lindsay worked on the blog. I’m currently reading The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. I can’t say much right now because I’m only a hundred pages in, but so far it’s painted a pretty bleak picture of the meat packing industry in Chicago in the early 1900s. We had lunch on the cheap, ramen noodles and frozen burritos. And finally a dinner consisting of fried seitan steaks and baked potatoes on the campfire with a new vegan cheese sauce. Then it was night rounds, popcorn and moonshine. Who knew accomplishing nothing could make a person so hungry.
