Cheers to the Good News and the Bad News

26 February 2012 in Memories, Traveling

When you hear the phrase, “I’ve got some good news and some bad news”, people always want to hear the bad news first so here it goes.

The bad news is our time here at Panther Flat campground is coming to an end. We will be leaving mid-March instead of mid-April to travel onward. The time that we have had here was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience and we have no regrets whatsoever. We have seen our fair share of the Redwoods, more waterfalls than we have seen in our lifetime, the soothing waves of the Pacific, whale spouts, banana slugs and eagles. Since living in Northern California we were able to make it to Seattle, Portland and San Francisco where we saw old friends and made some new friends. They were all wonderful cities and I can’t wait to visit them again for there is always more to see and do. I will miss the West Coast and all its glory even though it tends to be a bit dirty and run down in some areas and there’s a big pot cloud that hazes above it.

The good news is that I can now be called Ranger Lindsay. I have accepted the position of Visitors Use Assistant at Glen Canyon National Recreational Area in Page, Arizona. We will be spending the next six months there. I will be the one taking your money at the entrance station, so you better behave!

On Wednesday, the 22nd, while we were doing our internet, I received a phone call asking me if I had time for an interview. I was speechless and definitely not prepared at that time so I offered to schedule it for the next day. No time for that, she needed to interview me right away so she could have everyone hired by Friday. So an hour later, I was interviewed and offered the position. I didn’t say yes right away because we needed to figure out our living situation since the park cannot accommodate for our trailer. I had the night to decide whether to take the job and that didn’t give us much time. Since the offer came unexpectedly, it turned our world upside-down. Dan already had our route planned out for leaving here. After hours of talking about the pros and cons of the job offer, I called them in the morning to accept the job. I was welcomed aboard and from the pictures online, Glen Canyon looks beautiful! We fell in love with Southern Utah and Northern Arizona when we were at the Grand Canyon and this will give us the experience of living in another new place. It’s going to be extremely hot though. And I will probably get to see all of those little creatures like snakes and scorpions that I just adore (sarcasm). Its going to be a new addition to our adventure and another story to keep sharing with everyone. Now we just need to find a place to live so apartment shopping here we come!

To all our friends and family, I hope some of you can come and visit our temporary home! We’ll be there from April until the end of September or early October. Otherwise we’ll see you in the fall!

  1. Congratulations on the job! Did you apply for the North Rim? If you get an offer from there you can accept it too, and then decide which one to take. That is one thing I have learned, is always say yes and decide later.

  3. Thank you! I did apply at the North Rim but Vets always come first and I must not have made the cut but that’s ok. Glen Canyon will be a great start to a hopefully wonderful future! We’ll definitely have to come and visit since we’ll be so close to you guys!
